Directions to park: From
Moose, 8 miles north west of NPS road. Various access pints. Check in
at Jenny Lake Ranger Station for climbing info and permits. Lupine Meadows
(for Garnet Canyon) is the most popular trailhead for the Grand Teton.
- Boulder Island Boulder:
From Moose, go north of Moose on NPs road. Park at String Lake parking
area. Follow signs to String Lake. Leigh Lake portage. The portage and
Boulder Island is at the southern end of Leigh Lake. Canoe North for
50 yards across to small island. One giant boulder awaits your arrival.
Plenty of top ropes on cool island setting.
- String Lake Boulder:
From Moose, go North of Moose on NPs road. Park at String Lake parking
area. Proceed 1 mile north to String Lake Bridge. Turn left for Paintbrush
Canyon (sign). Go 200 yards, then turn left on faint game trail for
75 yards to String Lake Boulder.
- Jenny Lake Camp Ground
Boulders: From Moose, drive 8 miles north to Jenny Lake camp ground
and nearby Jenny Lake Ranger Station. From ranger station, go 100 yards
west to bicycle path and then north about 100 yards to three historic
boulders. Cutfinger Rock's south face is seen first left of path and
Falling Ant Slab is just west 15 yards west towards Jenny L:ake. Red
Cross Rock is 39 yards north of Cutfinger, adjacent to bike path on
left.
- The Grand Teton (13,770'):
From Moose, drive 8 miles north. Turn left on Lupine Meadow Road (before
Jenny Lake). Trailhead for Garnet Canyon or Amphitheater Lakes begins
at Lupine Meado Parking Area. Of the two, Garnet Canyon sees probably
the most use for the Owen Spalding / Exum Ridge routes. Ampitheater
Lakes trail routes climbers over to the North Face arena to the Grand
Teton.
- Teton Canyon (Grand Wall):
From Driggs, check in at main intersection head east on Targhee Ski
Road. Turn right at 5.9 miles and take dirt road to road's end in Teton
Canyon. Hike 5 min up trail. Grand Wall up trial 100 yards on left.
Sport Climbing on granite with limestone near by.
- Death Canyon: From
Moose, go about 3 miles south on NPs road to Death Canon Trailhead.
Hike about 1 hour up canyon. Several buttresses to one's right, the
Snaz Buttress being the most popular. Short approach to multi-pitch
(800') routes.
- Blacktail Butte:
From Jackson, drive 12 miles north on highway 191 (about a mile north
of Moose). Blacktail Butte is east of road. Main (north): Obviously
indiscreet stairway leads past low bouldering traverse / topropes to
the main bolted crag. For South (Upper) Cliffs. From parking lot, follow
worn foot trial 15 minutes stouh east and then left up talus.
