Rib Mountain
State Park, WI
We Need Your Picture

Directions to park: Take Hwy 51/I-39 to Wausau. Exit on Hwy N and go west. Look for park entrance road on right side of Hwy N. Take road up south side of hill to parking lot near top. There are many large boulders and small exposed rock faces that are great for bouldering. Just south of the lookout tower on the Blue Trail is a rock formation called Sliding Rock on the map provided at the park. Start here. Following the Blue Trail SW to the Red Trail you will see plenty of bouldering opportunities -- mostly one-move-wonders in the difficulty of V0- to V2 (cruxes of 5.9-5.11a). If you get just off the trails and do some minor exploring, you'll find some great overhangs low to the ground and easy to pad. The rock is all quartzite - slab and crimps, and some particularly painful cracks and flakes.

Camp-sites: Camping onsite in the state park. Parking is $5 per day, $18 for an annual pass for the whole state.
