Directions to park: From
Custer, go 7 miles north on highway 89. The main areas are:
1. Sylvan Lake: At the junction of highways 89 and 87 and contains the
Outlets north west of lake, Campground Boulder east shore, and Photographer's
Peak 1/4 mile south east.
2. Needle's Eye: 1.25 miles east of Sylvan Lake and famous for the Thimble
adjacent to the Needle's Eye and many classic routes.
3. Ten Pins: Go further east past Needle's Eye where sharp switchbacks
arise. The Ten Pins lie in between hairpin turns.
4. Cathedral Spires and Picket Fence: 1/2 mile hike north from Ten Pins
to this land of 100+ summits en rout to Haney Peak. Some sport routes
but mostly traditional style routes. Some trad routes contain only bolts
but are very run out. Don't consider them sport climbs because they should
only be done if your a competent leader of the grade your trying to climb.
You should get a guide book because this area is complicated.
