'Mowing The Yawn'
at Buck Rock,
Sequoia National Forest.

Directions to park: From Interstate 99, exit onto the 198 east. Follow this through the city of Visalia and continue approximately 34 more miles past Visalia to the town of Three Rivers. The park entrance is 3 miles past the town; still following the 198. Once at the park entrance, the road becomes the Generals' Highway. Take the highway for approxiamately 21 more miles up into the park's higher elevation until the 'Giant Forest' area is reached. Once at the top of the grade, you will need to take an immediate right turn down the Moro Rock Loop drive, if Moro Rock is your climbing objective. Signs will direct travelers to Moro Rock. Limited parking spaces are available during peak seasons or holiday weekends. The best time to climb at Moro Rock is late spring and early fall. Be aware of approaching thunderstorms. Lightning and high winds should be a concern.

Camp-sites: Lodgepole and Zumwalt. If you intend on staying in the backcountry, make sure you get a 'Use Permit' at the Visitors Center.

Cheap Healthy Eats: Lodgepole has a small grocery store and deli. The deli serves a mean platter of Buckwheat pancakes. As a side note, the store started to stock a few pieces of climbing gear but nothing like the Mountain Shop in Yosemite Valley.
