Pinnacles National
Monument, CA
Scenic view of the Pinnacles

Directions to park: From Soledad head east on 146 to Pinnacles National Monument. Getting there, take the long route, because entering the park from the west side is really dull. Follow Hwy. 101 to Hwy. 25 just south of Gilroy. Continue on Hwy. 25 about 45 miles to Hwy. 146 West which leads to the east entrance.

First Sister is the best route for your first lead climb. Don't be surprised to see long-time Pinnacles climbers tapping the rock before going for a hold -- loose rock abounds. Many bolts replaced with titanium glue-ins.

Camp-sites:

  • The only camping is on the east side and you cannot drive through the park. Campground is cheap and has showers, pool and store.
