Directions to park: From Fresno go west on route 180 to park entrance. Buena Vista Peak. General Grant Grove Quadrangle CA 7.5 minute series map.Hwy 180 to Generals highway Wye. turn south and go about 3 miles south to the Buena Vista turn out just past the Kings Canyon Overlook. Hike one mile to the top of the dome and rap off to some good one to two pitch climbing. Good 5.8 to 5.10 climbing on good rock. Try "Up around the Bend" 5.9 with a chimny, roof .and some slab climbing for about 130ft. Located at center of dome. Locate 3 bolt anchor below top of dome just below small fir tree. Rap to bottom and route is obvious. Some Quick draws and pro to 2 inches. For roof use cams. There are some other good short bolted routes to north of Up around the bend. First ascent 8-28-94 by Ken and David Thiessen, father and son. Good access and good area to climb |
