Directions to park: :From Fresno, take the Friant exit and head north. Follow Friant Rd. past Friant Dam till it reaches Auberry Rd.. Turn left on Auberry Rd. and travel it's length till you reach the small community of Prather. Turn left at the stop sign onto the 168. Follow this briefly (aprrox. 1 mile) till you reach the intersection of the 168 and Tollhouse Rd.. Turn left here. The 168 becomes a 4-lane road heading up a moderately steep grade. The highway will taper back to a 2 lane road at the top of the grade before reaching the town of Shaver Lake (another 4 miles from the top of the grade). Just inside the town limits of Shaver Lake, turn right on Dinkey Creek Rd. Follow this for approx. 19 miles to almost roads end. Prior to the road ending is (approx 1/4 mi.) McKinley Grove Rd.. Turn right onto McKinley Grove Rd and over the bridge of Dinkey Creek. Follow McKinley Grove Rd for approx. 13 miles till one reaches a signed intersection for Courtright and Wishon Reservoirs. Turn left for Courtright Reservoir and follow a single lane access road for 7 miles to Courtright. You'll know your there when you get your first ominous eyeful of Power Dome on the right side, prior to arriving at the shore side of the reservoir. Total approximate distance travelled is 96 miles and takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to complete. |
